Booooks

I've been getting up the motivation to clean my super messy house and I started in Lucy's room because that's the easiest for me. Theoretically everything in there has a home, it just needs to go live in it. Well, I've cleaned out a bit and I am taking a break at the book shelf. I went through and we have a very large "donate" pile of books, but there are still over 150 on her shelves including 27 coloring books. I am such a hoarder. At least it's books and not Barbies?

A Quote From Elementary

I love it when a fictional character nicely sums something up for me about my own life. Here is the latest from Elementary's Sherlock Holmes --

There is unquestionably a certain social utility to being polite, from maintaining an awareness of other people's sensitivities to exhibiting all the traits that might commonly be grouped under the heading "nice".

I am not a nice person. It's important that you understand that. It's going to save you a great deal of time and effort.

There is not a warmer, kinder me waiting to be coaxed out into the light. I am acerbic. I can be cruel. It's who I am. Right to the bottom. I'm neither proud of this nor ashamed of it. It simply is. My nature has been an advantage far more often than it has been a hindrance. I'm not going to change.

I'm good to you? You're exceptional. So I make an exception to accommodate you. But you must accept that, for as long as you choose to be in my life, there will be occasional fallout from my behaviour. That must be a part of our understanding.

Jesus and Loki

I pointed out a stained glass window today that was really lit up and pretty. It was of Mary. I told Lucy that Mary was baby Jesus' mom. She said "That's pretty. Really pretty. But I don't believe in the myth of Jesus." So I told her that's all well and good but I asked her what she did believe in. She said "Well, I believe there's lots of gods and goddesses too." so I asked her like who? And she says, "Well, like Loki! Not the bag (G has a bag made from a coyote that he calls Loki), but the guy. Loki is awesome. I totally believe in him!"

Quiz Time

Why do people feel the need to quiz my child constantly? If she said she went to the local elementary school, would this happen? I somehow don't think so. While I was trying on clothes today, the fitting room attendant was talking to Lucy. The following is the conversation that ensued. I could not see them, but I can imagine the faces Lucy was making lol

Woman - Are you in school yet?
Lucy - Yes, I'm in first grade.
Woman - Oh! What school do you go to?
Lucy - Everywhere.
Woman - Everywhere?
Lucy - Yes, my school is everywhere! I'm homeschooled!
Woman - Oh... my neighbors homeschool their kids. I bet that's interesting.
Lucy - Yeah, it's okay. (Tries to tell lady about her stuffed bat she's holding)
Woman - (ignores Lucy's comment about her stuffed bat) Do you know your alphabet?
Lucy - (I can only imagine the dumbfounded look on Lucy's face at this point) Umm... yeah? I'm in first grade! I can read almost anything!
Woman - Oh. That's good. Do you do addition? Do you know what six plus two is?
Lucy - Uh. Yeah. It's 8.
Woman - Good! Do you know what six minus two is?
Lucy - Fooour (Here I figure Lucy is giving the woman a look of confusion, wondering why an adult doesn't know basic math).
Woman - That's great! I guess you're learning a lot!
Lucy - Yep! I know half of everything!

Why are we awake? Because we can!

It's 1:30am and Lucy is hopping up and down "singing" the Doctor Who theme song and pretending Twilight Sparkle (a my little pony) is The Doctor inside the TARDIS (which is an empty Ritz cracker box). It's moments like these that remind me that even though some stuff sucks right now, my life is awesome
